Bookkeeping That Fits Your Business

Your books should be accurate, organized, and ready when you need them—but that doesn’t mean every business needs the same level of bookkeeping.

At Fortitude, we match the frequency of your bookkeeping to the way your business actually operates. Whether your books need attention a few times a year, every month, or throughout the month, you get professional bookkeeping without paying for more service than your business needs.

Bookkeeping by Design

The right level of bookkeeping for the way you do business.

A solo business with straightforward activity has very different bookkeeping needs than a company with employees, multiple accounts, and hundreds of transactions each month. We don’t believe they should be sold the same bookkeeping package.

That’s why our full-service bookkeeping is offered at three different service levels:

Checkpoint Bookkeeping
Full-service bookkeeping at three scheduled points throughout the year.

Monthly Bookkeeping
Consistent monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations to keep your financials current.

Weekly Bookkeeping
More frequent attention for active businesses with greater volume, complexity, or reporting needs.

You get the level of support your business actually needs—and room to adjust as those needs change.

A Note About Pricing:

The prices above reflect a simple, clean bookkeeping structure and are starting points. Your actual fee depends on the amount and complexity of the work involved, including transaction volume, the number of bank and credit card accounts, payroll activity, loans, inventory, sales tax requirements, and other factors specific to your business. Commingling personal and business activity can also increase the bookkeeping work required. We’ll confirm your pricing after learning more about your business and reviewing your bookkeeping needs.

Why Fortitude for Bookkeeping?

Good bookkeeping is more than getting transactions categorized.

Your books should be accurate, reconciled, and organized in a way that makes sense for your business. They should also support better decisions throughout the year—and make tax time considerably easier.

At Fortitude, bookkeeping is a partnership—but we work hard to keep your part of that partnership small. We handle the day-to-day accounting work while you provide the business-specific information only you can provide. When we have a question, need documentation, or need clarification about a transaction, we’ll reach out.

That small amount of participation matters. It helps us keep your books accurate, understand what is actually happening in your business, and catch issues before they become bigger problems. In our experience, clients get the best results—and are happiest with their bookkeeping—when there is a simple, responsive partnership between the business owner and their bookkeeping team.

And because bookkeeping and tax don’t live in separate worlds, we understand how the decisions made in your books ultimately flow into your tax return. We build and maintain your accounting with that bigger picture in mind.

Real Bookkeeping Professionals

Your books are handled and reviewed by people who understand accounting—not simply processed through automated software.

Books You Can Rely On

We reconcile your accounts, address inconsistencies, and keep your financial records organized so the numbers actually mean something.

Connected to the Bigger Picture

Because bookkeeping and tax work together, we pay attention to issues that can affect tax planning, reporting, and the decisions you make throughout the year.

Your Books Belong to You

You maintain your own QuickBooks Online or Xero subscription and have direct access to your accounting records. Your software subscription is separate from our bookkeeping fees. If you ever leave Fortitude, your books leave with you.

Need to Get Your Books Started—or Back on Track?

You don’t need perfect books before you come to us. Sometimes the first step is setting up your accounting correctly from the beginning. Other times, it’s cleaning up what’s already there.

Bookkeeping Setup

Start with books that actually fit your business.

QuickBooks Online and Xero can get you started, but an out-of-the-box accounting file isn’t necessarily organized in a way that’s useful for your business. We’ll help you build a better foundation.

Our one-time bookkeeping setup includes:

  • Guidance connecting your bank and credit card feeds
  • A chart of accounts organized for your business and industry
  • Several transactions categorized to help get you started
  • A recorded walkthrough of your accounting file, including how to categorize transactions, reconcile accounts, and run basic reports to check your work
  • 90 days of portal chat support for how-to questions and minor setup tweaks

One-Time Setup: $295

For standalone setup clients, your recorded walkthrough remains available for four months. The $295 setup fee is waived when you begin ongoing Fortitude bookkeeping and prepay at least three service intervals.

Bookkeeping Cleanup & Catch-Up

Sometimes we need to fix the foundation before we can maintain it.

If your books are behind, inconsistent, or simply aren’t giving you reliable numbers, we’ll determine what needs to be corrected and get the current calendar year back on track.

Cleanup work may include:

  • Reviewing and reorganizing your chart of accounts
  • Correcting transaction categorization
  • Cleaning up bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Addressing duplicate, missing, or incorrectly recorded activity
  • Bringing the current calendar year’s bookkeeping up to date
  • Preparing the books for ongoing bookkeeping and tax work

Cleanup pricing is based on the scope of work required.

Cleanup may be required before beginning ongoing bookkeeping, particularly when starting services mid-year. Cleanup fees may be discounted or waived when combined with ongoing bookkeeping and prepayment of at least three service intervals.

Please note: Bookkeeping cleanup projects are not performed from February through April while our team is focused on tax filing work.

How do I know whether I need Checkpoint, Monthly, or Weekly bookkeeping?

It depends on how active and complex your business is, how often you need current financial information, and how much activity is flowing through the books. Checkpoint is designed for straightforward, lower-volume businesses that do not need monthly financials. Monthly works well for most established businesses, while Weekly is intended for higher-volume or more complex businesses that need more current information. We’ll help you determine the right fit.

Do I need QuickBooks Online or Xero?

Yes. We work in QuickBooks Online or Xero, and you maintain your own subscription directly. Your software subscription is separate from our bookkeeping fees. We believe your books should stay yours, with direct access to your accounting records at all times.

What will you need from me?

Bookkeeping is still a partnership, but we work hard to keep your part small. We handle the accounting work and reach out when we need business-specific information, documentation, or clarification that only you can provide. Responsive communication helps us keep your books accurate and gives you the best results.

What if my books are behind or need cleanup?

That’s okay. We offer cleanup and catch-up services to correct current-year bookkeeping, clean up the chart of accounts, address reconciliation or categorization issues, and create a reliable starting point. Cleanup may be required before ongoing bookkeeping begins and is priced based on the scope of work.

Can you help me set up new software?

Yes. Our one-time bookkeeping setup is $295 and includes guidance connecting bank feeds, an optimized chart of accounts, example transaction categorization, a recorded walkthrough of your file, and 90 days of portal support for how-to questions and minor tweaks. The setup fee is waived when you begin ongoing bookkeeping and prepay at least three service intervals.

Can I change service levels later?

Absolutely. Your bookkeeping needs can change as your business changes. A business that starts with Checkpoint Bookkeeping may eventually need monthly service, while another may grow into weekly support. We can adjust the frequency when it makes sense.

Do you handle payroll?

We can support the bookkeeping side of payroll, including payroll reconciliation and making sure payroll activity is reflected correctly in the books. Payroll processing itself is a separate service and is not automatically included in bookkeeping fees.

How is my bookkeeping price determined?

The prices shown above are starting points. Your actual bookkeeping fee is based on the amount and complexity of the work, including transaction volume, number of accounts, payroll activity, loans, and other bookkeeping or reporting needs. After learning about your business and reviewing your books, we’ll confirm the appropriate service level and your monthly or per-touchpoint fee.

Do I have to be a Fortitude tax client?

No. General bookkeeping services can be provided as a standalone service. If Fortitude also prepares your tax returns, the bookkeeping and tax relationship can work together more seamlessly, but tax preparation is not required to use our bookkeeping services.

Do you work with businesses outside Utah?

Yes. Fortitude provides virtual bookkeeping services to businesses throughout the United States. We use a secure client portal to exchange documents and communicate with you wherever your business is located.

When is cleanup work performed?

Cleanup projects are generally scheduled outside our busiest tax filing period. We do not perform bookkeeping cleanup projects from February through April, when our team is focused on tax filing work.

How do we communicate with you?

We use our secure client portal for bookkeeping questions, document requests, and ongoing communication. This keeps your accounting information and conversations organized in one secure place.
